7 Favorite Winter Traditional Dinners – Slow Cooker Style

Wouldn’t it be cool if someone invented an appliance that cooked your food for you? Oh wait, they have!

Slow cooker meals are some of the easiest to make, and require such little preparation. Plus, they’re the perfect comfort food for a cold, winter day.

We’ve rounded up seven of our favorite traditional meals that can be made in a slow cooker. Add these recipes to your meal plan this week (click on their links), and enjoy the savory goodness of a home-cooked, scrumptious, and classic meal.

1. Chili

Chili is an all-time classic meal loaded with a myriad of spices, protein, and hearty vegetables. It’s a robust meal you can guarantee everyone will love. This particular recipe is rich with flavor, using cocoa powder as a secret ingredient (don’t worry, it won’t taste like chocolate. But if you are craving chocolate, reach for a FatBoy instead). This chili has minimal preparation (just sautee the onions, and brown the beef), then toss everything in the slow cooker for a few hours and you’re good to go. Serve it with a slice of cornbread or overtop some baked potatoes, and your family will be begging for more.

2. Pot Roast with Veggies

Relive your childhood memories with one  bite of this Ultimate Slow Cooker Pot Roast. With tender meat falling off the bone, juicy vegetables, and warm gravy to slurp down, this dinner is the PERFECT comfort food that’s not only good for the body, but good for the soul. Just fifteen minutes of prep is all the work you need to do to get this baby cooking. Don’t worry if you’re no Betty Crocker– this meal is so easy your kids can make it (now there’s a great idea!). Serve this succulent dish with a salad or some diced potatoes.

3. Spaghetti Casserole

Spaghetti is a classic meal that everyone loves. This Spaghetti Casserole is a great twist on an old-school favorite. Just brown the meat and stir together the sauce ingredients to prep, then toss it in the crockpot and let your flavors simmer together. You don’t even have to boil your pasta beforehand like most recipes call for. This is pure comfort food, with a fraction of the work.

4. Chicken Fajitas

If you’re looking for a versatile dish that can be used in a variety of meals, look no further. These Easy Crockpot Chicken Fajitas are yummy, low in carbs, gluten-free, and packed full of flavor. With only six ingredients, they’re quick to make, and make for a healthy meal. It will become a staple in your kitchen as it can be served in tacos, burrito bowls, salads, etc. Serve it with chips and salsa, warm tortillas, guacamole, or over top rice and beans, too. This recipe is the perfect dish for meal prepping on those days you just don’t feel up to cooking.

5. Chicken Noodle Soup

Typically people think of chicken noodle soup as food you only eat when you’re sick. But those people probably haven’t tried this Homemade Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup recipe. Move over Campbell’s–this soup is hearty and loaded with carrots, celery, chicken, and noodles. If you’re looking for someone to warm you up and cheer you up after a long, cold day, you need to try this rich, mouthwatering soup.

6. Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Pulled Pork Sandwiches aren’t just for the summer time. With a slow cooker, you can make these year round! And this Texas-styled pulled pork is one you’ll want to make all year long. Welcome to flavor country, my friends! The smokey sauce made with apple cider vinegar, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worchestire sauce, mustard, chili powder, and thyme, blend together with the tangy pork to give your tastebuds a real party.  After cooking for several hours in the slow cooker, serve this juicy pulled pork over top some buttered and toasted rolls, and a side of coleslaw. Giddyup!

7. Honey Garlic Chicken

This one pot meal is not only tasty, but packed with hearty ingredients like chicken thighs and three different kinds of vegetables. This recipe can’t be any easier as it requires literally no prep. Just toss everything in the slow cooker, and walk away. No cooking. No sauteeing. No messy countertops. No extra dirty pans. Just one delicious, moist, flavorful dish. Now that’s comfort at its finest.
