Our Story

FatBoy® is America’s #1 Ice Cream Sandwich—but the story starts long before the first sandwich was ever made.

In 1925, Casper Merrill began crafting frozen novelties using cream from his family’s milk cows in northern Utah. He launched his first creation—the “Casco® Nut Sundae”—at a local 4th of July celebration. From those humble beginnings grew a legacy of bold, creamy indulgence. Soon after, Casper developed his original FatBoy® Ice Cream Sandwich, a much larger than usual ice cream novelty.

Those first Nut Sundaes and FatBoy® Ice Cream Sandwiches were such a hit, people couldn’t get enough. To meet growing demand, Casper scaled up production and began making these ice cream treats on a larger scale. Before long, it wasn’t just 4th of July crowds enjoying them—people all across the Intermountain West were discovering and falling in love with Casper’s Ice Cream, making them a household name.

Nearly a century after that first 4th of July celebration, Casper’s Ice Cream is still proudly headquartered in Richmond, Utah, where it all began. With deep family roots and a dedication to quality, the company has expanded its operations to share its timeless treats across the country—while still staying true to the original recipes that started it all.

Today, FatBoy® Ice Cream stands as America’s #1 Ice Cream Sandwich—celebrated for its extra thick, creamy, and indulgent frozen treats. As part of the Casper’s Ice Cream family, FatBoy continues to grow while honoring its beginnings, using the same high-quality ingredients and time-tested methods that made it famous. From coast to coast, FatBoy is still bringing bold flavor and big smiles to ice cream lovers everywhere.
